Big Bend Of The Colorado State Recreation Area – Laughlin, Nevada

Wow, we love this park. Neat, clean, huge, spacious sites, lots of privacy, and a great cell signal with strong data. Big Bend is the newest Nevada State Park and has 24 large, level sites with full hookups added in 2009. And it shows it. Welcome to Big Bend (not to be confused with Texas’ Big Bend National Park)!

The park is about 5 miles south of Laughlin so away from the noise and traffic. Even though the park is right off Hwy 95 for easy access there was little to no noise. By 7pm the road is quiet as can be. The only sounds at night are the howling of the coyotes.

Of course, this visit was in the winter time and I am sure during spring break, summer, and fall the river rats are here in force so probably much more crowded and noisy.

The campground is one big loop with pull-thrus around the outer edge and both pull-thrus and back-ins in the center. The showers/restrooms are neat and clean also. A very tidy and spacious park.

Campground: Big Bend State Recreation Area
Location: Laughlin, Nevada
Site: 19
Cost: $30
Services: FHU
Comments: Huge, spacious, and private sites in a nice, clean, well maintained park with free firewood.

This park even provides free firewood, how cool is that? It is like the Yukon Territorial Parks. We have not seen that at parks in the Southern California, Arizona, Southern Nevada area. That was great. But please give a donation to ensure this benefit remains.

Those Young Guys

The park also provides a lovely day use area with lots of picnic tables, white sandy beaches along the river, and a boat launch. There are a few miles of hiking trails (mostly in the sand). And the recreation area continues across the street. There are not any maintained trails for hikers in that area as it seemed to be used mainly by dirt bikers but the brochure said “have at it”!

With Laughlin being so close you can be up to the Casinos in a matter of minutes for any of your gambling/sightseeing needs. They even have an outlet mall.

Those Young Guys

Several of the casinos provide RV parking  for spending the night but check first. as you may need to pay a small fee ($5) and check in with security.

Within easy access, across the river is Bullhead City which is a much larger city and is sure to meet your shopping needs also. There are even some lovely Memorial Parks along the river.

Definitely a park we would come back to if only for the peace and quiet and spacious sites! We loved it so much there we almost didn’t want to tell anyone about it, wink, wink.
