Harris Beach State Park – Brookings, Oregon

We made it to Oregon!  After a lovely drive on Hwy 101 from Paso Robles, California to the Oregon border (over a period of time) we decided to stop in Brookings for awhile.  Brookings is the southern most town on the Oregon coast and known for growing nearly 90% of American’s Easter lilies/bulbs.   The lily fields can be seen in the early summer from Brookings down to Crescent City, California.  Brookings is also known for their temperate weather known as the Brookings effect (AKA Chetco effect).  We have been here before but just to use the day use area, take a break, and explore the campground. This time we decided to stay at the campground and check it out in more detail.

Harris Beach State Park is right on the Pacific Ocean.  The campground has 145 sites including RV sites with full hookups, RV sites with electric and water, and tent sites.  Sites are in various sizes, some are buried deep in the woods, and some have ocean views, especially the back-in sites, A20-A25. Even the sites across from the ocean view sites, A26-A28, have nice ocean views.  Just need to make sure you are parking your rig in the best direction to take advantage of the view.

When we visited this campground years ago we left feeling the sites were too short, too crowded, too dark, etc. This time, about 6 years later, we saw it through different eyes and fell in love with the place. It all has to do with the site!  This time we had a fairly large site in A, at least compared to B, C, and D.  We had privacy due to chest high bushes surrounding our good sized picnic area.  It was a back-in site which meant we had a nice view out of our front windshield. I was happy.

Campground: Harris Beach State Park
Location: Brookings, Oregon
Site: A27 (back-in)
Cost: $25
Services: E/W (50 AMP)
Comments: A lovely beach state park, so typical of Oregon, with a nice sized site and privacy in the A loop with ocean views.  The site is easy walking distance to the beach.

We had rain a few days but then the sun came out and it was beautiful. We had several walks on the beach enjoying both the rain and the sun. Love this place.
