We have stayed at the Palm Canyon Campground countless times and find that even through it can be almost full in the winter (Jan, Feb, March) we can almost always get a spot for a few nights. We sometimes make reservations ahead of time if need be but not always.

We headed south from Joshua Tree National Park along Box Canyon Rd. Taking Box Canyon cuts off a few miles from driving I-10 to Hwy 86 south. Not only does it save some miles but it also is a nice, quiet, peaceful, scenic drive right along the San Andreas Fault.
