Utah Lake State Park has been on our list for visiting for years but it seems we just never made it there. Plus some of the reviews I had read didn’t sound so great so we always put it off. Boy, are we sorry. We finally stayed here for 3 or 4 days and absolutely loved it. We wished we had started visiting here years ago. The Provo Airport is right next to the campground and we thought that would be a problem but it wasn’t. There were a few planes flying in for the holiday weekend but it was during the day and we had fun watching the private jets fly in. The campground was very quiet at night.
Campground: Utah Lake State Park – Lakeshore Campground
Location: Provo, Utah on the shores of Utah Lake
Site: 22 (Pull thru)
Comments: We loved this state park and campground. The site was perfect and had great views in all directions. From looking around at all the sites we felt that this site was the best in the campground. We could just site out in our picnic area and watch the lake, the birds, and the airplanes. Perfect!
COVID Awareness: 8 out of 10. We quickly checked in via the drive up kiosk entry and went directly to our site. Employee was wearing a mask. I cleaned our picnic table myself (wiped it down) as it did not appear to have been cleaned (grease and bird droppings on the table). We did not use any public areas.
The State Park has a lovely day use area with a visitor center, lots of picnic tables, marina, boat rentals, and lots of room for fishing access.
The lovely area of Sundance is about a 30 minute drive away from Utah Lake State Park. There are various hiking trails, one of which is a nice hike to Stewart Falls. In that same area is the Alpine Loop Scenic Drive which is a lovely short drive in the moutnains.
Close to Utah Lake State Park is a storage area that has a fantastic collection of old signs and vehicles. It is great just to walk the road and look at all of them.
