Park City, Utah – Out and About

Ross Creek

Ross Creek is an area of Jordanelle State Park which is on the north east side of the reservoir and has hiking and biking trails. It is about a 10 mile drive from the campground to the Ross Creek trail head.  The Ross Creek area has two hiking loops and the Perimeter Trail which is over 13 miles long and borders the reservoir.

Rock Cliff

Rock Cliff is another area of Jordanelle State Park which lies on the south east side of the reservoir and is about a 15 mile drive from the campground.  On the way to Rock Cliff is the Jordanelle Dam Overlook area with terrific views of the surrounding area including the campground.

Further down the road is the entrance to Rock Cliff which has a nature center, walk-in tent camping sites, and the trail head for the 13 mile or so Perimeter Trail. There is also a boat launch area for SUPs, kayaks, and fishing boats.

Deer Valley Ski Resort

Deer Valley is a small ski resort located close to Jordanelle State Park and Park City Ski Resort. It is much smaller than Park City therefore is more charming and is much more upscale. It is consistently ranked as one of the top ski resorts in the US. There is no comparison to Park City in our opinion.

Park City Ski Resort

Park City Ski Resort now consists of 2 areas, Canyons Village and Mountain Lodge.  They are 2 distinct areas with different base lodges. You can purchase a chairlift scenic ticket in the summer which provides full day access to 4 ski lifts – Town Lift, PayDay, and Crescent in Mountain Lodge and Red Pine Gondola in Canyons Village.  We decided to spend the day riding lifts and hiking around the tops of the mountains.

Canyons Village Ski Area

Canyons Village is further north from Park City Mountain Lodge and Park City Old Town by about 5 miles or so. It has its’ own little village and is currently undergoing a tremendous amount of updating and new construction.  This definitely took away from the charm and the beauty of the area to see so much building going on and also to hear so much noise with the heavy machinery. But we endured and took the Red Pine Gondola to the top to hike a few trails.  The area has lots of mountain bikers so it was a bit difficult to find hiker only trails.

Mountain Lodge

This area of Park City is much busier due to being closer to town and having a variety of family oriented activities. They also have 3 chairlifts operating during the summer so we decided to check them out.

The Mountain Lodge area of Park City is much busier than Canyons Village due to the  many summer activities including mountain biking, golf, ziplining, alpine coaster, alpine slide, trampolines, swimming pool, and miniature golf. There is always something to do there.
