Those Young Guys

Yuba Lake State Park – Levan, Utah

We departed Grand Plateau just east of Kanab and headed west through Kanab and past the caves and on to the Thunderbird Restaurant In Mt. Carmel Junction, Utah which is famous for Ho-Made Pies!! We continued on past Archie’s Food To Die for in Orderville. It was wasn’t long before we were in Panguitch. It is a beautiful drive.

The boyhood home of Butch Cassidy is in Circleville, Utah about 30 minutes north of Panguitch. It is where Butch lived with his parents from about 14-18 years of age. It has a few interpretive signs, some restrooms, and a large parking lot. It is basically a rest area and a perfect stop for us for lunch.

We continued on north to I-70 passing through Servier, Utah and the Caboose Village, a quaint lodging facility of cabooses, how cool is that? There is a great bike path which runs along the edge of the Servier River and looks terrific. Then on to Sciopio and back onto I-15 to Yuba Lake State Park.

Yuba Lake State Park is on the east side of I-15 and has a variety of different campgrounds. It is along the Servier Bridge Reservoir (also known as Yuba Reservoir). The dam was built in the early 1900’s by the local ranchers and farmers who were told they had to build it or loose their water rights. The workers felt they were damned if they worked and damned if they didn’t work and called it U.B.Dam. This name obviously stuck but with a new spelling, Yuba.

The North Beach and West Beach campground (now referred to as North Beaches) require reservations but it is dispersed camping. When you arrive you just go select an area you want to park. There are no official sites. We decided to stay at Oasis Campground which is a small campground on the northwest side of the lake. There is also Eagle View campground and Painted Rocks Campground on the east side of the lake along with cabins and group camping.

Campground: Oasis Campground

Comments: A beautiful campground along the shores of Yuba Lake. It is a small campground with plenty of space and fabulous views.

Oasis has 26 campsites with many pulls thrus which can accommodate large RVs and also two cabins which are lakefront.

Our campsite was right on the shores of the reservoir and offered stunning views with both some clouds and stormy skies and then some nice sunny blue skies. Beautiful.

A Bullock’s Oriole decided to spend quite a bit of time with us at our campsite. I think it was looking for handouts. NOPE, not from us.
