Those Young Guys

Sunrise Summit RV Resort – Malad City, Idaho

Our first stop for the morning was a fuel station in Nephi, a Texaco. We liked their sign by the pumps offering to help disabled customers. Good on you Texaco. Then we continued on for the wild drive through Salt Lake City. It was a downpour most of the way with lots of traffic, lots of blinding rain, and a few car accidents which meant we took a few detours. It took us much more time than usual and we luckily made it through the weather tired, exhausted, but alive. Soon we were in Idaho. Home sweet home.

There aren’t many places to stay between Salt Lake City and Pocatello and only a few places in Pocatello. We read about a fairly new place along Deer Creek Reservoir north of Malad City, Idaho and decided to try it out. We knew the owner just opened it up about a year ago and it still has work to be done on it but they are trying. Welcome to Sunrise Summit RV Resort.

Campground: Sunrise Summit RV Resort
Location: Malad City (north
Site: 51 (pull thru)
Cost: $52.92
Services: FHU
Comments: A bit of a work in progress (AKA a fixer upper). It has a number of sites all with lake (reservoir) and mountain views. It is a stunning location but with very basic facilities. We had full hookups with 30 AMP but everything looked tired but it was very clean. The owner could not have been any nicer and you can tell they are trying to make a go of getting this place up and running and to make it a lovely resort.

There are a few lakefront cabins which look new and some smaller back-in sites for either small rigs or tents.

There were some seasonal rigs there (it looked like) and I think they host fishing tournaments periodically.

The place is quaint and charming but some of the picnic tables, sign posts, and shade structures are quite old and rustic but wow, what a beautiful place and a great owner. Give them a chance and help support them.
